Do you love vaping? You aren't alone. There are so many delicious flavours to choose from that vaping is always a treat. Well – almost always. If you've noticed that your favourite e-juice has started to taste strange or that you can't taste it all, you may be experiencing a case of vaper's tongue. Just as smoking can give you bad breath or affect your taste buds, vaping can also affect your mouth, just in different ways. The good news is that vaper's tongue is not serious, and, with the right treatment, it will be gone pronto. Here are some of the most common causes of this phenomenon and how to avoid it.
You've just stopped smoking
Many people turn to vaping as a better alternative to smoking cigarettes. It's common knowledge that smoking can affect your senses of taste and smell. However, the effect is not permanent. Once you stop smoking, these senses will gradually return to normal. If you suspect that your issue may not be vaper's tongue at all, but rather the common loss of smell and taste caused by smoking, then just give it time – you'll be enjoying the full flavour of your e-juices before you know it.
You're vaping the same e-liquid all the time
Once you find a vape juice that you love, why would you ever vape anything else? Actually, switching up your flavours every now and then is the best way to ensure that you keep enjoying your favourite one as much as always. One of the most common reasons that people develop vaper's tongue is because they use the same e-liquid all the time and their taste buds simply get so used to the flavour that they can't taste it anymore. To fix this problem or avoid it altogether, branch out to some new flavours and give your tongue some variety.
You need to clean your coils
The atomiser coils inside your vape can become covered in dirt and debris over time. This buildup can burn, leaving a bitter taste in your mouth and dulling your taste buds to the flavour you want. If your device is a reusable vape mod (not a disposable model), then make sure that you are checking the coils and wick for dirt regularly. If you are using a disposable vape and suspect that your vaper's tongue is caused by coil buildup, try simply replacing your device with a fresh one.
How to get rid of vaper's tongue
If the above situations don't apply to you, yet you are still experiencing vaper's tongue, don't worry – this condition has lots of possible causes and just as many easy fixes. Some people swear by blasting their taste buds with a strong flavour such as peppermint or coffee to bring them back to life. Others find that brushing their teeth using a strong, minty toothpaste cleanses away anything blocking the taste buds and refreshes the palate. In some situations, all you can do is wait – but keep in mind that vaper's tongue never lasts forever and, in almost every case, it goes away on its own very quickly, leaving you to enjoy your e-cigarette flavours once again.
